Maritime Industry Overview
Marine facilities such as ships and oil platforms create some unique challenges for the reliability of lubricated machinery as they often operate in some of the harshest environments on Earth—salt-laden air, constant moisture, and extended service intervals far from port. High humidity, extreme weather and a highly corrosive environment can accelerate machine wear, impair the function of lubricants and lead to premature failure. These lubrication related failures can lead to lost production, disrupted work schedules and most importantly, safety risks. Common marine machinery like engines, hydraulics, compressors and gearboxes are highly sensitive to these conditions, and steps can and should be taken to protect them.
